Our sustainability initiatives

At Sofacompany, we have decided to become a sustainable company. That is why we think through all parts of our furniture: the materials, the production, the transport and the durability.

How far have we come so far?

Green energy

March 2020: SOFACOMPANY changes to Ørsted and this means that all electricity is based on wind energy. This means that, among other things, the European central warehouse in Korsør runs on green energy.

Solar energy for factory

December 2019: 3,030 solar panels are installed and activated on our factory roof. They are expected to produce 1,576 MWh / year. This is just the first sod in the attempt to become a CO2-neutral production facility.

Co2-neutral shipping

October 2019: We are proud to be a partner with ClimatePartner in an attempt to offset the CO2 emissions while delivering our products from the factory to customers. Like any other e-commerce, we must send products from A to B. Until there is a reasonable way, by not creating CO2 emissions during transport, we have decided to compensate the climate footprint from transport of our products. As a result, all of our transportation is CO2-neutral - right from the factory to your front door.

Partnership with
Trees For The Future

October 2019: In an attempt to help both people and nature, we have built up a long-term collaboration with Trees For The Future, where we plant 5 trees for each piece of furniture we sell.

Due to global warming and other similar factors, a large number of people are living in severe poverty. At the same time, our planet is losing trees equivalent to the size of 50 football fields per. minute, and additionally, the food industry destroys our ecosystems.

Through a campaign called Forest Gardens, poor farming families will have the opportunity to get more food while shaping a sustainable future for themselves and the climate by planting specific types of fast-growing trees, fruit trees, hardwoods and food crops in a systematic way over a four-year period.

New sustainable fabric

August 2019: Astha Cura Textile Launch, our first sustainable textile, which is made from 98% recycled plastic bottles and is just as soft as regular textiles.

Plastic Change

August 2019: Our collaboration with the charity Plastic Change with a view to reducing plastic consumption worldwide.

Recycled rugs

July 2019: Velvet Ocean rugs Launch, made from textile scraps and bamboo (sustainable material as it requires only a few pesticides and is biodegradable).

Sofa cover

June 2019: Henry Sofa Launch, our first sofa with removable cover. Then you can change the style in the living room without having to buy a brand new sofa, but just an upholstery. We now have several sofas with removable covers.

BSCI certificeret

January 2019: Our factory in Vietnam was BSCI certified in January 2019. BSCI offers an ethical set of rules to companies, to ensure an ethical value chain.

Genanvendt bobleplast

December 2018: Introduction of bubble wrap made from 100% recycled plastic in our packaging. Head office with zero energy.

November 2017: We moved to our new head office in Denmark - a zero-energy building powered by solar energy and geothermal heating. A zero-energy building means that the total amount of energy that the building produces per. years, is the same as it consumes. This means that the CO2 emissions of a zero-energy building are equal to 0.

What's next?

We have a long list of sustainable initiatives that we want to implement, and we therefore have a long way to go before we reach our goals. However, we are proud to share first results with you and we would like to mention some of the projects we are currently working on.

The majority of the wood used in our furniture is FSC certified. And we are not finished at all yet, because we want, among other things. that ALL wood in our furniture must be sustainable. In addition, we have a lot of other goals that we want to share with you. Initially, you can read more about  FSC certificeringer her.
